There are different seasons and therefore different times to plant. It would be very useful to have a gardening calendar to help you be prepared for which plants to grow for each season weather you are growing outdoors or indoors.

Applying mulches for your outdoor gardens in spring and summer around your plants will reduce the amount of watering, as it will help keep moisture around the plants, and also aid in keeping the unwanted weed population down. It will also help protect the roots from the strong summer sun.

Applying fall mulch around the plants will help to keep the plants protected from the freezing cold winter months by protecting them from freezing and thawing, which would most likely kill the plant.

If you are growing fruit trees or shrubs, you will want to protect the fruit from birds when the fruit is maturing. You can drape fine netting over the trees or shrubs to ensure protection from the birds eating the fruit and also have enough light for the berries to ripen.
